100% SEO Geek Stuff - Google Pagerank
This is one of my ‘thought experiments’, but one I’ve been testing for ages LOL, and on a number of sites and it does seem to work, for me. I’d like feedback on from seo geeks - you know who you are
How do you identify the strongest pages on your site, in terms of real Googe PR as measured by Google, or link equity (do they differ?), using no tools or API, and only Google? Can you observe and measure real pr as it happens?
Surely you would need to leave Google to rank pages with nothing more than Pagerank to observe such a ‘force’? So, can you do such thing? Perhaps. (more…)

Search Engine Optimisation - What Not To Do
So Google has now released a search engine optimisation starter guide for webmasters, which they use internally:
Although this guide won’t tell you any secrets that’ll automatically rank your site first for queries in Google (sorry!), following the best practices outlined below will make it easier for search engines to both crawl and index your content. Google
Still worth a read even if it is fairly basic, generally accepted (in the industry) best practice search engine optimisation for your site.
Here’s a list of what Google tells you to avoid in the document; (more…)

Another test ‘result’ - Do links high in code matter more than links at the bottom of a page (as Google reads it)?
Background
There’s been a lot of complaining from webmasters about Google’s recent SERPS update, which saw a lot of webmasters flock to forums to complain about ‘poor quality’ sites ranking after the bug ridden update (confirmed by Google). (more…)

I thought I would share the results of another simple test I did to see how Google treats internal links.
What does Google count, when it finds two links on the same page going to the same internal destination page.
I surmised:
- Google might count one link, the first it finds as it indexes a page
- Google might count them all (I think unlikely)
- Google might count perhaps 55 characters of ALL of the available links (could be useful)
OK - From this test, and the results on this site anyways, testing links internal to this site, it seems Google only counted the first link when it came to ranking the target page. (more…)

As a seo I wanted to know - how many words or characters does Google count in a link? What’s best practice when creating links - internal, or external? What is the optimal length of a HTML link?
It appears the answer to the question ‘how many words in a text link” is 55 characters, about 8-10 words.

Jeff Quipp on Tips for Improving Search Rankings
It can be difficult sometimes as a business owner, separating the wheat from the chaff, and knowing what is a real opportunity and what is not.
SEO is often posed as one of these predicaments for many business owners.
So, how is a small business person with a limited budget realistically supposed to experience the benefits of SEO. Sure, some jump in with both feet, but others are obviously much more skeptical.
